Tool overview

The integrational platform INTECRIO-IP enables cross-tool collaboration between development partners, be they manufacturers, ECU vendors, or engineering service providers. It protects the competitor-sensitive model components from unauthorized access. In addition, INTECRIO-IP allows you to carry out prototyping directly on your PC. This way, modern PCs with their processing power and memory capacity become prototyping tools. INTECRIO-IP offers you a scripting interface for automatic control from other Windows programs.

As an interactive graphical user interface, the common ETAS experiment environment for all ETAS products enables an analysis of the model behavior even during execution. You can simulate parameters and variables with user-defined signal curves. A variety of graphical layout options and efficient spreadsheet editors generate excellent analyses and documentation.

INTECRIO-IP is one of the leading integration tools for the prototyping of function models for ECU software. With its help, you are able to perform development work quicker and better.

Functionality scope:

  • Integration of ASCET and MATLAB®/Simulink® models, AUTOSAR software components, and C code
  • Prototyping of automotive electronic systems on a PC or in the real environment
  • Support for CAN, CAN FD, LIN, and FlexRay
  • Bypass application via ETK, XETK, FETK, and XCP
  • Virtual prototyping on Windows PCs
  • Open interfaces for automation and adaptation to customer specifications
  • Signal generation with ETAS experiment environment
  • Use of all the prototyping models generated by INTECRIO with INCA
  • Vehicle tests with the compact ES900 prototyping hardware family and the powerful ES800 measurement, calibration, and prototyping system

Virtual prototyping minimizes development times. The ETAS INTECRIO-VP add-on enables you to analyze system models without the need for complex prototyping hardware. You can already use open-loop validation on the basis of existing test data or model-in-the-loop (MiL) technologies in the early development stage in order to validate and pre-calibrate new functions.

INTECRIO-VP brings virtual prototyping to the PC workstation. It achieves especially informative results with a virtual real-time operating system and thanks to the ECU-compliant transmission of signals between software components. In addition to the function models, you can integrate vehicle or environment models for MiL applications. This allows both the validation of functions and their pre-calibration.

The simulation time in INTECRIO-VP is scalable, enabling you to carry out virtual experiments quicker using fast-motion timing. This offers significant advantages, for example, for automated processes. The stimuli are generated by the ETAS experiment environment’s signal generator.

Its wide range of capabilities make INTECRIO-VP an ideal tool for virtual prototyping.

Functionality scope:

  • Virtual prototyping with different development artifacts
  • System models can be analyzed without complex prototyping hardware
  • Use of MiL simulations in the early stage of development to validate and pre-calibrate new functions
  • Additional integration of vehicle and environmental models alongside the function models
  • The simulation time can be scaled in INTECRIO-VP using the slow-motion/fast-motion function in processes

The real world is still the hardest testing environment. With the ETAS INTECRIO-RP add-on, you can validate and verify control and diagnostic functions under real conditions.

INTECRIO-RP seamlessly uses the models and data from the virtual prototyping configuration. You can integrate prototypes into existing ECU vehicle networks via the ETAS rapid prototyping hardware. In a bypass application (via ETK, XETK, FETK, and XCP), INTECRIO-RP enables you to use the rapid prototyping hardware as a simulation controller and to calculate the parameters for new ECU functions.

On the hardware side, INTECRIO-RP supports the powerful ES800 measurement, calibration, and prototyping system, the ES900 family of compact rapid prototyping modules, the daisy chain modules from the ES400, ES600, and ES930 families, and the ETK and XCP ECU interfaces. All prototyping models generated by INTECRIO-RP can, of course, be used by INCA.

INTECRIO-RP systematically improves the quality of the development process. It reduces correction loops by reusing validated software functions across various process steps. A strict separation of the software function model from the configuration of the prototyping hardware, operating system, and instrumentation makes it possible.

Prototyping targets

INTECRIO-RP supports all ETAS prototyping targets suitable for in-vehicle use. The compact hardware modules of the ES900 product family provide the complete range of prototyping functions in the smallest space. The ES920, ES921, and ES922 modules of this family extend the functionality offered by the ES910 by adding FlexRay, CAN, and CAN-FD. The ES930 multi-I/O module and all the modules in the ES400 and ES630 families are also supported.

Functionality scope:

  • Validation and verification of control and diagnostic functions under real conditions – also in the vehicle
  • Use of models and data from the virtual prototyping configuration
  • Integration of prototypes into existing ECU vehicle networks
  • Use of rapid prototyping hardware as a simulation controller in the form of a bypass application
  • Multi ECU bypassing with several ECUs simultaneously
  • Support of ETAS rapid prototyping hardware and the ETK, XETK, FETK, and XCP ECU interfaces
  • Use of prototyping models generated in INTECRIO-RP in INCA
  • Vehicle tests with the compact ES900 prototyping hardware family and the powerful ES800 measurement, calibration, and prototyping system
> 100 customers
INTECRIO is used by more than 100 customers worldwide.

Innovative bypass technology

The INTECRIO platform enables you to easily create external bypass applications to support your development, prototyping, calibration, and testing needs. You can add, modify, or replace ECU functions independently of the ECU supplier.

INTECRIO enables an excellent integration of ETAS prototyping hardware and ETKs for bypass configuration and access to external signals. The highly performant bypass technology ensures real time execution of the bypass models synchronized to the ECU rasters.

Use Case: diesel engine development at Daimler AG

Image of the ETAS ES910 module

Software developers at Daimler AG specified the behavior of new control functions designed for turbocharging diesel engines in MATLAB®/Simulink®.

The challenge: prior to integration into the ECU software, the new functions had to be validated in the vehicle.

The solution: ETAS INTECRIO and INTECRIO-RP enabled the developers to integrate the functions into the engine control software through software hooks, followed by direct validation and testing in the vehicle with the ES910 module.
